So Much Joy

With Jason Bay coming to the Red Sox and Manny Ramirez gone, we can now rid ourselves of the headache that was Manny Ramirez.  I don't know much about Bay as a person, but this whole thing is addition by subtraction in some sense.

I have to imagine Manny's teammates were just sick of going to battle while he took time off.  The resentment is gone (or will go) and they can now focus on playing good baseball and know that Bay will be one of them.  Add to it that Bay is no slouch and happens to be a left fielder to boot.

Friday night is Bay's potential debut.

As for the deal itself, it looks like this based on reports:  Manny to LA (sorry Joe Torre), Jason Bay to Boston and 4 prospects to Pittsburgh.  Of those 4, two are from Boston's system, Craig Hansen and Brandon Moss.  I'll miss Moss a bit as he seemed to play the game the right way and showed signs of being a Major Leaguer.  Hansen's act had grown thin and it is probably good for him to get a fresh start.

Andy - it's being reported that the Sox sent $7 million to LA along with Manny. Looks like they REALLY wanted to get rid of him finally.

I wonder how Torre will handle Manny? Should be fun to read about it ...

I like Bay, always have. He's been a the best player on a very bad team for what seems like ages. Must be very exiting for him to play games that matter for the first time in his entire career. It will be interesting to see how he handles it.

seems steep with the cash included. I will worry about Ortiz brooding now, hopefully he will be professional about it.

Hansen won't be missed, Moss will IMO (eventually).

I want to see Bay's reactions/quotes, gotta feel good being traded for Manny Ramirez and going to a contender

From a baseball standpoint it seems like a lot to give up for Jason Bay. Don't get me wrong, he's a nice player, but Manny is one of the greatest hitters ever. Too bad he is such a moron.

Mitchell, it is steep. Very steep.

I trust this organizations management as a whole and it speaks volumes that the team went to these lengths to unload Manny.

2 prospects, $7mm and Manny Ramirez. Unless Red Sox management has lost it, and I don't believe they have, it tells me that the Red Sox with Manny would have been worse off than with him gone.
