Disgrace
You simply can't lose that game. Up 6-0 Burnett has to find a way to bring it home. I found the managing by both guys strange to say the least. Why did Francona keep Beckett in there and why did Papelbon close out a 5-run lead? More importantly what was Girardi's bullpen plan tonight?
Veras came in for the 6th and Albe came in for the 7th which makes you think Ramirez or Marte would have been used for the 8th if the Yankees had a lead <gulp> Why was Coke, who has been hot recently, pulled after getting Ortiz out?
I don't get it, but the Yankees better figure out a way to win tomorrow.

This fits under the heading of disgrace:
Yoy CANNOT let Berroa play that far off the bag with a fast runner in 3B. I understand that Berroa is a SS not a 3Bman, but a) he is a major league ballpayer so he needs to be smart enuf to play his own bag, not Jeter's slot and b) it was really Thomson's job to watch Berroa and move him properly.
This, again, falls at Girardi's feet to get his coaches watching their assignments at ALL TIMES.

Totally agree, but don't forget the pitcher in all of this. Fourth time home has been stolen against Pettitte in his career.

Oh, and Berroa is an awful defender, they should really just let Pena play third eventhough he won't hit.

I agree completely that Pena needs to play and Berroa needs to do something other than play for the Yankees. I don't forget the pitcher, but had Berroa played closer to the bag - he was off by a huge amount - then Ellsbury is back by an add'l 3 to 5 feet and prob thrown out at the plate.
Berroa and Thomson own this mental error - and it's at Girardi's desk that the buck stops.
This is when we need to have one of those classic "Torre moments" behind closed doors. Yea, I know that Joe had his own blind spots, esp when he would "Quantril" his relievers into an early retirement, but his teams played tighter ball.
I truly hate to watch sloppy games. And this month;s games, blow outs or not, have had way too many head scratching moments. Jeter must be going nuts. I know that I am.
