First Guess

It's 10:27pm and Rivera just finished the 8th inning.  I just want to know, why is he in there?  I am assuming Bruney is hurt and that is the reason he didn't pitch the 8th.  But, Albie was two strikes from getting out of the 8th and he got pulled.  That didn't make sense to me and with Ellsbury up, why wouldn't you go to Marte if you didn't trust Albie with an 0-1 count?  Strange moves by Girardi in my mind and I hope it works out.  I just hate bringing in Rivera for the 8th, he never seems the same in the ninth.

Sadly, I was right to worry- on to extra innings.

I have seen numerous posts by you Peter this spring on the strength of the bullpen for the Yankees. I haven't really looked at it closely but it, by far, is one of the most significant strengths of the Sox this year. Once Rivera was touched up by Bay I felt the game was the Sox' for the taking.

The weakness in the pen has been Marte. Normally, I think you would have seen Veras in the 11th, but he pitched a lot Wednesday when they went 14 innings. If Bruney is healthy he pitches the 8th and Rivera comes in in the 9th and I bet they win that game. I just find Girardi's moves last night baffling. Why let Albe get a strike on a guy and then pull him? Makes no sense to me.
