More Fun With Alex

Hey, remember Alex Rodriguez?  Quite fellow, never stirred the pot, a pleasure to hear about.  Well, the good news is he is playing in a rehab game today which means he should be back in the lineup very soon.  The bad news is Selena Roberts' book comes out May 12 and the Daily News has a copy and has started to write about it.

Some of the stuff is not the surprising.  It claims A-Rod used steroids in high school and HGH in 2004. (Seriously, at this point can you honestly look at any player in baseball and 100% believe he is clean?  I know I can't)  What is more distubring to me, is the allegation that he would tip his teams' pitches to opposing batters in blowouts, hoping that would be done for him in return.  To me, selling out your own teammates like that is unforgiveable.

As an added bonus, the book on A-Rod comes out the same day that the new book about Roger Clemens comes out.  Should be quite a day for baseball.

Selena Roberts? Isn't she the media muffin who couldn't get over the fact that the Duke LAX team was innocent and kept on attacking them even after the legal show had moved on? The Selana Roberts who (ahem) moved on from the NY Times to Sports Illustrated?

Great lady !!! As unbiased as they come. Sure thing.

Hey, even Pete Abraham, the impartial and unbiased media stud from the LoHud area, even he says that she has never told a lie or been wrong about A-Rod, so it must all be true. Right? RIGHT?

;-)

Still thinking about the possible beauty of having 6 quality starting pitchers versus the Kevin Brown, Shaun Chacon, Aaron Small, Carl Pavano eras.

The take I heard this morning on it was these were possibly left out of the book originally but when A-Rod went crazy with his claims that she broke into his house etc. that she and the publishers pushed back the book release to give her more time to get some research. I have no knowledge of publishing but my guess is the book was in print already but I really don't know how long it takes to print up nationwide distribution of books.

Either way, this story has moved way past important and is only for the pleasure of the viewing audience now.

Also-to literally call the time with KB, Chacon, Small and Pavano an era is the real sad part of your statement. Maybe you should have called it the "brief interruption of common sense" or BICS period in Yankee history.

Haha...theres been a few BICS periods then. To be fair, Chacon did his job in 2005, as did Smally. What a weird year that was.

What's that you say, are we back to A-Rod and steroids again? Haven't we moved on to Swine Flu or some such?

By the way, those posts you guys placed on the other thread have got me starving! And I just finished lunch!

BL? Pls believe me when I tell you that as a Yankee fan, those interruptions were *** anything *** but brief. LOL.

Ian? You're right - Chacon and Small did do their jobs but Kevin Brown, Carl Pavano? Nah ...those guys never made sense.

"BICS" I love it, but is it possible to have common sense and George Steinbrenner in the same sentence?

OK, I really need to throw this out there for all the "true" NYers or ex-NYers out there. Here's a quiz: what the first thing that comes to mind when I type, "Mrs Stahls" ?

Greg? Ian? Peter? BL?

And no, it is not logical to have "common sense" and King George in a rational sentence. "Drive"? Yes. "Obsessed"? Sure. "Winner"? Absolutely.

It makes me think of another reason I rode the F Line to it's final stop. Sadly, there are not as many reasons anymore.

Mitchell,

I am pretty sure I know the answer, but I won't name the place because I don't want to spoil it for the others. Besides, I have to confess, I cheated -- I used Google. I never frequented that establishment (and I went to HS, college and Grad School in Brooklyn! Didn't much hang out in that section, though. Was there an amusement park there named Nellie Bly or some such?). Anyway, I hung out closer to school (downtown Bklyn). For example, I frequented the establishment that claimed to have the finest cheesecake in NY. Anyone care to guess which one that is? I don't know if they had the finest cheesecake in all NY, but I can attest it was darned good. Sadly, given my age (and waistline), if I were to attempt to ascertain at my advanced age which establishment does in fact have the finest cheesecake, I would probably have cardiac arrest before I came close to finishing.

Peter,

It seems you have more than a few people here that can appreciate the culinary treats that NYC (and Boston) has to offer. It seems to me you could set up a whole new website (or section on this one) dedicated to just great places to eat. I would certainly be willing to share some restaurant names with you if in fact you ever wanted to set such a thing up. My wife and I like to go to NYC from time to time to eat. And my sister lives in Boston, so I could go visit her and get great recommendations for places to eat! (As an aside, she even shares season tickets with her roommates for -- you may want to sit down before reading this -- the Red Sox. I'm trying to get her disowned from the family for this betrayal, but her mother is simply not cooperating!)

Greg-

Does it begin with a "J"? I am more than happy to take restaurant recs for NYC. I would setup a separate place on this site, but that would require Andy's approval and his idea of fine dining is Dunkin Donuts. (Now we will find out if he is reading this thread) If you ever want some Boston recs, I have a bunch from living there for 10 years.

Yep, related to cheesecakes, it does start with the letter "J" and they get my vote. Two bites and you are basically done unless you really push it, that's how rich they are - they sell 'em in a little stopover deli in Veron, CT between Bahston and NuYawk.

And yes, Peter, I'm sure you know the place - it was my hangout near the beach when I needed food, drink and some shade.

About tonight's game? Hopefully we can walk off with this one in the bottom of the 9th. And Texeira isn't fooling anyone so far this season - he's got to still be playing hurt with that wrist problem. He looks bad at the plate.

Sorry Greg - you were the one who got it right. My error.

Wait, I didn't get it right?

And, hopefully MO is coming in to shut them down in a few minutes.

F Train? Yep Peter, of course you got it right. I missed the F train reference completely. I was thinking of the Q train stopping at Brighton Beach.

Mrs Stahl's Knishes - my favorite being kasha followed closely by potato.

Tex down looking ... c'mon Mo, shut 'em down now. Oh no, lead off hitter on base.

Not much left there Mitchell, though you can still get a dog at Nathans and soft serve on the boardwalk. (just watch for the enormous holes)

G'night guys. Thank you for "being there" at the game tonight with me tonight. You all make it fun.

Game over, Mo took care of business. Now I can digest my dinner . . .

Mitchell and Peter: You've both got it-- Junior's. Darn good and darn rich -- my arteries are hardening just thinking about that cheesecake! Oh, and Mitchell, if you get a cup of coffee (which you basically have to do, given how rich that cheesecake is), then two bites is probably one too many. But man, it is heavenly!

Peter,

I really do think adding a thread on Boston and NYC eateries would be a nice addition to the website, assuming you and Andy are both agreeable. It could be fairly free-form, like the posts today. I will get you something ASAP. Will take a few days, though. I can't sit at the computer too long -- I just had my ACL reconstructed and the leg swells up if I sit for more than a few minutes. An interesting surgery -- sort of like "Tommy John" surgery, but on the knee instead of the elbow. My life is rehab right now. Sort of like A-Rod, except that no one cares, and I don't make 12 gazillion dollars a day :-)

Greg-

Living near Juniors is a curse and a blessing. I will look into the food thing and see what we can rig up.

GL with the ACL, rehabbing an injury is no fun.
