Edwar Is Out

Or should I say Bruney is back?  Thankfully, they put at least a temporary end to the Edwar era.  I like the kid, I wish him well, but he doesn't belong in a big league pen. Yes the strikeouts are nice, but 19 HR's in 93 IP is not good enough for the bigs.

Now, the question is who is going to step up behind Bruney and Mo?  Coke has been bad in May.  Albie doesn't look like he wants to throw strikes.  Veras is the same way and Tomko just strikes me as a sucker's bet.  I would like to see Aceves get a shot, see him try some late inning situations.  The guy seems to have the nerves for it and he gets the job done.  Of course that leaves you without a long guy, but isn't that a role Tomko could fill?

Yanks are 9-2 since A-rod's return. Texeira has raised his average from .192 to .281, his OPS from .753 to 1.019, and has 6 HRs, 15 RBIs. 9 of his 14 hits have been for extra bases.

I think its safe to say, Arod has made a significant difference to the line-up.

Synergy.

Read somewhere that Manny and Papi rivalled - or was it surpassed - Ruth and Gehrig in the dynamic duo category (which I just made up, I think). Wonder when or if we'll be able to compare Texeria and A-Rod to the above duos one day. Have to add Mauer and Morneau to the mix as those two would give any pitcher a bad case of the shakes at times.

I think Coke is the no.3 guy behind Rivera and Bruney. Veras should be the long man because his control is too erratic to be reliable in clutch late-inning situtations. Aceves and Tomko are my options after Coke.

Finally, I think putting Hughes in the pen after Wang comes back would be an excellent opportunity for behavior modification. Make the dummy stop his pussyfooting; put him in situations where he rears back and fires his best two pitches and gets them over the plate. This will help him as a starter in the long run.

Albie would be my last option.

Not the best bullpen, but then again every team seems to struggle in this regard.

I don't think they go that route yet Corey. I think Hughes keeps starting in AAA and then they move him to the pen- like they did with Joba in 2007- in August if they need him.

And yes, Tim and Mitchell, that's a really nice 3+4. Now they just need a cool nickname. Would T+A be too adult oriented?

Haha, yeah a nickname. Almost wish Arod had Mexican ancestry instead of Dominican....Nothing like a little TexMex in the middle of the order.

T n A? Catchy ! I'm sure ithe Post will pick it up and run with it. ;-)

Hughes looks like he's settling in to a good place as those 9 Ks were on good pitching, not a big strke zone. Have to keep Joba's innings limit in mind - and I'm assuming that Hughes is on one also. Probably going to be some juggling going on with those two after the All Start break.

Andy looks to be struggling a little on the mound ...

That's about as ugly a way to have your innings limited as there is - getting hit on a comeback shot to the knee - ouch !

Albie now looks like the next guy to need a little tune-up time in Scranton.
