Ok, so this is putting the cart before the horse, but Joba is apparently in the bullpen for the duration of the playoffs.
It's an interesting idea and one that I really can't argue with, Gaudin was better than Joba down the stretch. Furthermore, Gaudin was better than Mitre, but I guess Joe Girardi didn't agree with me about that one.
My one hope if this is true is that it doesn't lock the Yankees into their current playoff roster. Shelley Duncan has enormous value as a pinch-hitter. Freddy Guzman could be a big weapon as a pinch-runner. Despite the plan to have Molina catch AJ, do you really need 3 catchers? If you have Joba and Aceves in the bullpen, doesn't that give you 5 innings of relief right there at minimum?
It will be nice to have to debate these issues at a later date. One thing we do know right now is there will be at least three games played on Sunday. Considering the potential home teams: Boston, Minnesota, Colorado and maybe St. Louis, it is probably a decent guess to say the Yankee game would start at 6pm. We shall see.
