Some Things To Think About

There are some numbers from the ALDS that are worth thinking about.

Johnny Damon went 1-for-12 in the divisional series, not a very big sample size, but when you consider his September .247/.350/.315, something to worry about.  Perhaps Hinske should get a shot at Lackey in Game 1?

Damaso Marte failed miserably on Friday, but the Yankees probably want to keep two lefties in the pen.  The Angels have three hitters, Abreu, Morales and Figgins, who do significantly worse against LHP.

Melky Cabrera was 1-for-12 with 5 K's in the series.  When you think about what Brett Gardner can do and the type of game the Angels play, wouldn't it be smart to put Gardner in there?

Joel Sherman mentions the Yankees are thinking about using C.C. Sabathia on three-days rest for Game 4 if the Yankees find themselves trailing the series.  Because of the extra off day, they could then bring him back on regular rest in Game 7 if needed.  It makes a ton of sense and the Yankees might want to do it no matter what.  Sabathia is 3-1 in his 4 career starts on three-days rest and has an ERA of 1.01.

Phil Hughes was shaky in the ALDS, five hits in two innings.  Would the Yankees consider moving him into 7th and Joba into the 8th?
