Cross Him Off The List?

Reports coming out of Minnesota say that Joe Mauer has reached an agreement in principal with the Twins on a ten-year contract extension.

I felt all along that Mauer wouldn't leave Minnesota.  He is from there and with the new ballpark, the Twins have to show the fans they are willing to invest.  Obviously, he would have set off a huge bidding was between the Yankees and Red Sox if he had reached free agency, but it appears that won't happen now.

Between Cervelli, Montero and Romine, catching was never on my need's list for the team, Peter. We're heavy with catchers.

The guy that I am monitoring is Carl Crawford. We've got to take a good, hard run at him in about 9 or 10 months. Of course, if he should become available this July and we get a shot at extending him at that time, well ..... then I'll understand a whole lot better why Cashman held or was held to such a tight budget. :-)

I think the tidal wave of bidding for Mauer from more than just the Yankees and Sox would have been immense.

Teams would have loaded up players to get at him, even without an extension in place.

I'm happy though, I do like it when players stay with the team that brought them up and gave them the path to riches.
