Today Would Be A Good Day To Win

Last night wasn't good, but the Yankees need to make sure that today isn't a repeat performance.  CC takes the mound and if the Yankees lose, AJ and Moseley follow Sunday and Monday.   If the Yankees lose today's game, they are suddenly in very dangerous waters, best to avoid them and win today.

The news that the Knicks have actually brought Isiah Thomas back into the organization reminds me of the bad Steinbrenner days with the Yankees.  For George Billy Martin was a guy he just seemed obsessed with.  For Dolan it is exactly the same as with Isiah.  Unfortunately for the Knicks, Martin was much better at his job than Isiah is at his.  Most people forget that Yankees' fans would have taken anyone else as the team's owner in the late 80's and early 90's.  If they need a reminder of that feeling, talk to a Knicks' fan this morning.

The comparison to Billy Martin is interesting. It came to my mind yesterday in the car when I heard about Isiah. After more thought I don't think it works though. Martin was a good manager, wasn't he? Through all the noise? Isiah isn't and will never be confused with a good basketball executive, ever.

Today's game should be a good one even if Lackey has been inconsistent all season. Who knows, maybe he throws 7 good innings and helps out.

On a performance level you are right, it doesn't work. But from an obsession standpoint I think it does. I always think of George firing Martin in 1978 and then having him announced as the manager for the 1980 team at Old Timer's Day five days later. It wasn't a good relationship and Dolan is going down that path with Isiah.

Another disconnect, didn't the Yankee fans love Billy? That was my opinion from afar. Not sure there is anybody that "loves" Isiah in New York.

Nobody likes Isiah, you are very right about that.

With Billy it's complicated. I wouldn't say he was loved, but he wasn't hated the way Isiah is. I think at the end most people just wanted to stop hearing about him.

fair enough

your prediction for the remaining 2 games in the series?

My prediction - split; Burnett wins, Lester wins

Burnett has been scratched from today's start (back stiffness), and Moseley's start has been moved up. So the final two matchups will be:

Sun: Beckett v. Moseley
Mon: Lester v. Hughes

Before AJ was scratched I would have predicted the Red Sox win both. Now, I say split.

Yankees should take 3 of 4. Having already taken 2 games, Yankees play loose and easy, Against Lester - Berkman sits, Thames thumps. That's my guess ...

Uh, nope. Hughes looked good, Lester looked better. Good game though ...
